Project Description:

This study investigates the potential product mix and delivery channels for microinsurance to satisfy the demand of the poor to protect their livelihood from shocks using the case study of, Mutual Assistance Fund (MAF), the pioneer microinsurance provider in Vietnam.  The study aims to contribute to the improvement the ability of Vietnam’s young microinsurance industry in meeting the needs of its clients. This will in turn enhance its efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability. In addition, the study examines determinants of microinsurance and identifies potential gateways for microinsurance to serve the uninsured poor population. The findings of this study can form useful managerial practices (e.g., tailor products to the need of clients) and policy implications (e.g., delivery channels for the unmet demand) for the microinsurance industry in Vietnam.
