In 2010, VimoSEWA faced falling membership and premiums, partly a result of losing some distribution partnerships. In response, it started by implementing organizational and operational changes, but it recognized it needed to address something more fundamental – its culture.

Insurers are using mobile phones to address two main challenges facing the microinsurance sector: increasing efficiency and reaching scale. This brief is based on a review of literature and 13 insurance schemes that are using mobile phones in some capacity. The review reveals good practices and lessons for insurers to consider when implementing mobile-based microinsurance.

This case study reflects the tensions faced by an organization trying to be socially focused and financially viable, and demonstrates how a resilient attitude can spur resurgence.

The project proposes to use satellite images of the vegetation, bypassing the requirement for physical validation, enabling scale-up for over 50 sites covering more than 50,000 people.

The project seeks to introduce biometric smart cards to improve access to and use of health care in  the RGHSSBY scheme being implemented by the Government of India and will be implemented with active support of the Ministry of Textiles.
